Tea Time: Traditional Medicinals Peppermint & Green Tea Peppermint

If you know me you know I LOVE tea, I've loved tea ...forever; when kids wanted hot chocolate, I wanted tea 😋. As much as I love tea, I am a bit picky about it. I like my tea straight up no milk, no sugar--maybe with honey or real pure maple syrup, but very seldom. I am also picky about the kind of tea I drink.
I generally gravitate towards organic teas, or teas that have made my 'approved list'. A while ago I saw an article about the amount of pesticides found in tea based on the tea itself or the bag used for steeping. In addition to that, many popular teas have artificial flavoring, non specific 'natural flavors', other fillings and GMOs. Even more expensive loose leaf teas like Teavana or more popular bagged ones like Tazo have been found to have questionable ingredients in them. Food babe has a great article about it here and here is another one by 42tea.

In a nutshell Numi, Traditional Medicinals, Rishi, Choice and (some) Yogi teas are your best bet. Teas that are USDA organic are great, but as with anything be sure to read the label. Another idea is to use a tea infuser and add the herbs of your choice to it (many herbs can be found in the bulk section of your natural foods store).

Traditional Medicinals definitely makes the cut for me. These teas are either organic or gmo-free (all organic products are gmo-free, but not all gmo-free products are organic). They are very simple with no 'natural flavors', artificial ingredients, soy lecithin, or stevia-- just pure herbal goodness 😊. I also like that if you go to Traditional Medicinals website they tell you exactly where they get the herbs for their tea.

Let me just mention I LOVE TRADITIONAL MEDICINAL TEAS, I see these teas as easily accessible herbal MEDICINE. Herbs ARE the earth's medicine :).  I like to over steep my herbal teas, because in my head I am getting more of the goodness out of it lol.

Right now I am on a peppermint kick and I am loving their peppermint as well as their green tea peppermint tea. Traditional Medicinal teas can be found pretty much everywhere these days (walmart, target, kroger, publix and of course your natural food  store). Peppermint tea is one of the best teas to drink without sweetener, the minty flavor is so pleasant that I don't even miss adding honey to my tea. The green tea peppermint tea is great because the peppermint is strong enough that it takes away some of the bite (or bitterness) of the green tea with all the benefits of green tea.

Flavor Notes and Taste:

(Traditional Medicinals Peppermint Tea)
Personality: Calm, Cool and collected, uplifting
Taste: Undeniably, pepperminty, aromatic and refreshing

(Traditional Medicinals Green Tea Peppermint)
Personality: Calm, Cool and Collected, uplifting
Taste: Undeniably pepperminty, aromatic and mildly tannic

I like to use tea in different ways, not just drinking as hot tea. The teas can be used as a base for a minty lemonade/minty green tea lemonade [just brew the tea, add squeezed lemon and honey to taste]. Another idea is to use the brewed tea as a base for your smoothies or green juices. The peppermint tea can even be mixed with witch hazel and used as a refreshing facial toner.

In addition to tasting great, peppermint can help soothe digestive discomfort, alleviate headaches, control bad breath (lol), calm inflammation, calm moods, etc. Check out Dr. Mercola for more a in depth article on the many different benefits of peppermint.

Thanks so much for reading and as always GOD BLESS! ❤☮
